However, these autonomous machines also have limitations and risks associated with them. Leaving them unattended can result in mangled lawns, damaged property, or even injuries. The lack of effective obstacle detection remains a pressing concern, as hoses, cables, and cars continue to pose challenges for the current crop of models.
Manufacturers must address the elephant in the room: long-term durability and affordability. While the latest models boast impressive features like 4G connectivity and advanced navigation systems, their price tags often exceed $2,000 – out of reach for many homeowners.

The mower effortlessly navigated sandpits and uneven transitions on my property, and its ability to mow both the front and back yards in one trip is a testament to its capabilities.
As the market for robot lawnmowers expands, consumers must remain aware of the ongoing challenges and limitations associated with these machines. Manufacturers must prioritize long-term durability, affordability, and effective obstacle detection to ensure that their products live up to the promise of autonomous perfection.
The future of robot lawnmowers is bright, but it’s essential to temper our enthusiasm with a healthy dose of skepticism. As we continue to push the boundaries of innovation, we must also acknowledge the potential risks and limitations associated with these complex machines. The recent FCC ban on new robots has cast a shadow over the industry’s future prospects, but existing models will continue to be sold and supported in the US.
