Japan Says Chinese and Russian Warships Held Live Fire Drills Within Its EEZ The Japanese defence ministry has confirmed that Chinese and Russian warships conducted live fire drills within the country's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
The drills, which took place in the Pacific southwest of Okinotori Island, involved two Chinese missile destroyers, a Chinese supply ship, and a Russian frigate. Okinotori Island is not a strategic hotbed.
In fact, its meager size and lack of permanent landmass mean it doesn't qualify for an EEZ under international law.
